Tips and Tricks for Home Safety

As we move into the summer season we’d like to revisit common safeguards to help secure your home. Officers from the Town of Cicero Police Department have frequented the Cicero Community Watch meetings and has presented various tips and tricks for residents to beef up their awareness and security at and around their home. Including some of these tools and methods can help deter would-be criminals and/or help solve any crimes that may take place in or around your residence. Below are a few tips and tricks as well as possible tools for these efforts.


This brand new app for both Android (link) and IOS (link) provides citizens the ability to submit anonymous tips to the Town of Cicero, IL Police Department. You can include photos and video as well. The app also displays agency crime alerts, and other organization web and social media content. REMINDER: Please dial 911 in the case of emergencies as submissions through the app are not monitored in real time.


The number one effective tool is garnishing a close relationship with your fellow neighbors. Get to know each other, exchange contact details and help keep an eye out for suspicious activity both around your property as well as your neighbors. An open line of communication between neighbors and the Cicero Police Department is the best deterrent to keep your neighborhood safe. Smart911 App for Smartphones

Available at Р With Smart911, you can provide 9-1-1 call takers and first responders critical information you want them to know in any kind of emergency. When you call 9-1-1, your Smart911 Safety Profile displays on the 9-1-1 screen and the 9-1-1 call takers can view your addresses, medical information, home information, description of pets and vehicles, and emergency contacts. You can provide as much or as little information as you like.
